Great Pride for Near East University


The assistant coach of Near East University Women’s Basketball Team, Emre Vatansever and four players of the team have joined in Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team that currently competes in Group B to qualify for 2019 European Women Basketball Championship (EuroBasket Women 2019). Serbia and Latvia will co-host FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019.

Near East University Sports Club released that Quanitra Hollingsworth, Bahar Çağlar, Olcay Çakır Turgut and Cansu Köksal have joined the Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team that competes in Group B to qualify for the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019. Near East University Assistant Coach Emre Vatansever will also provide contribution to the National Team as assistant coach.

8 groups of 4 teams play in home & away format to qualify for EuroBasket Women 2019. Latvia and Serbia are qualified directly as the hosts of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019 Final Round. Eight (8) group winners and the six (6) best second placed teams will qualify for the Final Round of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019.

Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team competes with Belarus, Poland and Estonia in Group B and currently leads the group with 4 points.  Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team faced Estonia at Tallinn TTU Sport Centre on Saturday 11 November 2017 and won the match 56-81. Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team also hosted Poland in Ankara on Wednesday 15 November 2017 and won the game 73-53. The Versatile players of Near East University, Cansu Köksal, Quanitra Hollingsworth, and Olcay Çakır Turgut were the key players that propelled the Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team to win 73-53 versus Group B struggler Poland.

Turkish Women’s A National Basketball Team will face Belarus at Minsk Sport Palace on Saturday 10 February 2018, and will host Estonia at Ayhan Şahenk Sports Hall, Istanbul on 14 February 2018.

Near East University’s French star Sandrine Gruda and the on form Swedish guard Elin Eldebrink will sweat for their national teams at FIBA EuroBasket 2019.
