Near East University’s Euroleauge Adventure begins … First Rival Italian Team Famila Schio

The Women’s Basketball Team of the Near East University will play their first match at the Women’s Euroleague, the most prestigious stage of European basketball competition this year, with the Italian rival, Famila Schio.

According to a press statement released by the Near East University Sports Club, the first match of 2017-2018 Euroleauge season will be played at the Caferağa Sports Hall hosted by the Near East University on Wednesday, October 11th, 2017 at 19.30.

The match will be live broadcast on www.fiba.com and BRT1 HD.

In Group B, in which Near East University Women’s Basketball Team takes place, UMMC Ekaterinburg (Russia), Fenerbahçe (Turkey), Nadezhda Orenburg (Russia), FamilaSchio (Italy), Perfumerias Avenida (Spain), Wisla Can-Pack (Poland) and BLMA (France) are also taking place.

After completing the last season with FIBA Eurocup championship in Europe, the Near East University Women’s Basketball Team made serious reinforcements to its team in order to reach its objective in the Euroleaguefinal-four.

The Belgian national pivot Ann Wauters, who had a successful season with Bellona AGU after having a championship with Los Angeles Sparks in WNBA, another Belgian national player Kim Mestdagh, and Jantel Lavender, one of the most valuable women basketball players, Turkish national player Cansu Köksal and Gökçe Doğan have been added to the Near East University Women’s Basketball Team.

Expressing that they are excited to be in Euroleague for the first time, Zafer Kalaycıoğlu, the Near East University Women’s Basketball Team Head Coach, said that they want to make a good start to the season and their first goal is to go up to the play-offs.
