International Dr. Suat Günsel Cup Basketball Tournament will make the name of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus heard all over the world

Six leading teams of Euroleague and EuroCup Women including Near East University, Galatasaray, Hatay BŞB, CB Avenida, ZWZ USK Prague and Castors Braine will meet in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for Dr. Suat Günsel Cup International Basketball Tournament that will be held at the Near East University RA 25 Sports Hall on 14-15-16-17 September 2017.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Atamtürk, the Head of Health, Culture and Sports Office of the Near East University, indicated that the International Dr. Suat Günsel Cup Basketball Tournament would be an important step that taken towards shaping the sports future of Turkish Cypriots.

Touching upon the significance of organizing and hosting such an important event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hakan Atamtürk, the Head of Health, Culture and Sports Office of NEU, expressed his considerations regarding the issue. “We are working diligently to host Dr. Suat Günsel Cup which is considered as one of the biggest basketball sports organizations in North Cyprus. Our aim is to provide all possibilities to accommodate the needs of each guest and create a good impression. We aim to ensure a solid and prestigious place in the basketball community for Dr. Suat Günsel Cup as a serious pre-season preparatory tournament” said he.

“This tournament will be an important step in forming the future of the Turkish Cypriots”

Expressing that they aimed to achieve an important gain by combining basketball with entertainment, Asst. Prof. Dr. Atamtürk said that they believed that the tournament, which was closely followed by basketball authorities, would be constitute a very important infrastructure for forming the future of the Turkish Cypriots.

“Hosting such a significant tournament in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with the participation of the elite teams of Euroleague and EuroCup Women, is not only a glamour for our republic and sports but also a great opportunity to make our name more known over the globe” noted he.

Underlining the leading role of the Near East University in contributing to the island sports to take place in the international arena with an increasing momentum to leave its marks on continents, Asst. Prof. Dr. Atamtürk stated that the tournament, which would take place in our country with participation of the leading teams consisting of very experienced and notable players of the world’s women basketball, would constitute a great step taken for making our country’s name known not only in the basketball community but in other sports arenas as well.

Basket’s first rivals are Turkey and Spain Six leading women basketball teams from Turkey and Europe will compete in the four-day-tournament that can be qualified as a serious pre-season exam for the participating teams. Near East University, Galatasaray, Hatay BŞB, CB Avenida from Spain, ZWZ USK Prague from Czech Republic and Castors Braine from Belgium will compete in two groups to be the finalists for Dr. Suat Günsel Cup. The groups are as follows:

Group A: Galatasaray, Hatay BŞB, and CB Avenida
Group B: Near East University, ZWZ USK Prague and Castors Braine
The tournament begins with Galatasaray-CB Avenida match on September 14. All matches will be held at RA 25 Sports Hall in TRNC on 14-15-16-17 September 2017. The tournament matches will be open to the public and free of charge.
